Our X
Short public posts, and a timeline of the people you follow.
Our X is short public text you run yourself. Write a post of up to 280 characters, reply to other people's posts, and like or repost the ones worth passing on. Your timeline is the people you follow — so what you see is chosen by you, not by a ranking you cannot inspect.
A post here is an activity in the same content model your wall already uses, and a reply is an activity with a parent — so the thread renderer, the like button and the audit trail all apply unchanged. What makes this app this app is the *short* post and the *following* view: the limit is 280 characters rather than the wall's twenty thousand, and the timeline is built from the people you follow plus the posts they repost, rather than from everything at once. A like is the same like you already have; a repost is its own thing, a public pass-on that puts someone's post in front of your followers, kept as a row per person so a double tap cannot double it. There is no "For You" algorithm, no verified badge and no quote-post: the honest small version is text, replies, likes, reposts and a following feed.
Step by step
How to write your first post
Every step is the real one in your own install. The posts, the replies, the likes and the reposts are all rows in your own database.
- STEP 01
Open Posts
From your workspace, open Posts. It shows your following timeline and the box to write a new post.
- STEP 02
Write a post
Type up to 280 characters. The count beside the box tells you how many you have left, and the button stays off until there is something to send.
- STEP 03
Follow people
Open People, find someone on the install, and follow them. Their posts then appear in your following timeline.
- STEP 04
Reply in a thread
Open a post and write a reply. Replies read oldest-first under the post, so the conversation is in order.
- STEP 05
Like or repost
Like a post to mark it, or repost it to pass it on to your followers. A reposted post appears in their timelines with your name on it, and the count moves once however many times you tap.
What it does
Short posts, a following timeline, and the verbs that matter
Posts that stay short
A post here is at most 280 characters, with a live count as you type. The limit is the app's whole shape — the point is a short post — so it is shown before you send rather than enforced after.
A timeline you chose
The feed is the people you follow, plus your own posts, with the posts those people reposted merged in. Nobody decides what you see but you — there is no ranking you cannot inspect and no account to create elsewhere.
Replies that read as a conversation
A reply is a comment in the same content model as your wall, so a thread reads oldest-first the way a conversation does, and a post carries the count of its replies.
Like, and repost
Two verbs, kept apart on purpose. A like is your private signal that you enjoyed a post; a repost puts it in front of your own followers. They are different acts with different results, so they are different rows — a repost never inflates a like count.
Passing a post on, once
A repost is kept as one row per person, so reposting the same post twice changes nothing and a double click cannot double it. Taking it back removes the one row.
Stored on your own server
Posts, replies, likes and reposts are rows in your own database, on your own disk. Nothing is sent to a third party and there is no separate account to manage.
