Our TikTok
Short vertical clips, ranked by what people watch.
Our TikTok is short vertical video you run yourself. Post a portrait clip with a caption, and a discovery feed ranks clips by what people watch — so something new can be seen without anyone following you first. The clip lives on your own disk and streams from your own domain.
A clip is vertical: the frame is measured from the file when you upload it, and a landscape video is turned away rather than squashed into a shape it was not made for. The clip is stored by the same engine as your video library, so it is one disk and one quota, and it streams with the byte ranges a phone needs to seek. What makes this app this app is the feed: it is a ranking, not a timeline, so a new clip is not buried under the newest post — it competes on being watched.
Step by step
How to post your first clip
Every step is the real one in your own install. The clip is stored on your own disk and the feed ranks it by what people watch.
- STEP 01
Record in portrait
Hold the phone upright and record your clip. It has to be taller than it is wide — that is the shape the feed is built for, and the app checks the file when you upload it.
- STEP 02
Open Our TikTok
From your workspace, open Our TikTok. It shows the discovery feed, and the control to post a clip.
- STEP 03
Choose the file and write a caption
Pick the clip and add a caption. The caption overlays the frame, so it is kept short on purpose.
- STEP 04
Post it
The clip is stored on your own disk and posted in one step. It appears in the feed straight away, and on your wall as a post.
- STEP 05
Watch it rise
As people watch the clip, the view count grows and the feed ranks it higher. The number is the honest one — a refresh by the same person does not add to it.
What it does
Short, vertical and found by being watched
Vertical, and measured, not asked for
The frame is probed from the file when you upload it, and a clip has to be taller than it is wide. That is the whole visual shape of the app — a full-screen vertical frame — so a landscape video is turned away at the door rather than letterboxed into it.
A discovery feed, not a timeline
The feed is ordered by how many people watched each clip, with newness breaking ties — so a clip nobody follows you for can still rise. That is what a discovery surface is for, and it is why a new account can be seen at all.
One view, counted honestly
A view is recorded as a row, and a repeat view by the same person within a session is folded into the first — so the number the feed ranks on cannot be raised by refreshing the page.
Stored on your own disk
A clip is stored by the same engine as your video library — one disk, one quota, one delete path — and streams from your own domain. Nothing is uploaded to anyone else's service.
It is also a post
A clip appears on your feed and your wall like any other post, so it is found where the rest of your writing is. Publishing to a network you have connected is a separate choice, never automatic.
A moderator can pull a clip
Hosting content makes it your problem, so a clip can be hidden from the feed. The clip and its file are kept, so pulling it is reversible and the record is not destroyed.
