Our Marketplace
List an item, take enquiries, keep the conversation.
Our Marketplace is a place to sell things, on your own server. List an item with a title, a price, a condition and an optional photo; let people browse what is for sale; and when someone is interested they send an enquiry that opens a private conversation with you. It is the same shape as a big marketplace's classifieds, kept in your own database — so the listings are yours and no platform sits between you and the people asking about them.
A listing is deliberately not a post. It has a price, a condition and a state that changes when the item is sold, none of which a feed post has — so it is its own kind of row rather than something written to a feed, and a listing never appears in your wall or your timeline. A price is stored as whole pence, never a decimal that can drift. An enquiry does not invent a new way to talk: it opens the same private conversation your messaging app uses, so the answer comes back where the question was asked and the privacy rules are the ones already proven. What this app deliberately does not have is the payments, the shipping, the buyer protection and the public directory — those are features of a marketplace with money and a population moving through it, and your install is your own.
Step by step
How to list your first item
Every step is the real one in your own install. A listing is a row in your own database, and so is every enquiry.
- STEP 01
Open Marketplace
From your workspace, open Marketplace. It shows what is for sale on your install and the form to list a new item.
- STEP 02
List an item
Give the item a title, a price and a condition, and a location if you like. Leave the price blank to take offers. It appears at the top of the list.
- STEP 03
Add a photo
On the item's own page you can attach a picture. It is stored on your own disk and served from your own server.
- STEP 04
Take enquiries
A buyer asks a question and it opens a private conversation with you. Every enquiry is listed on the item's page, so nothing is missed.
- STEP 05
Mark it sold
When the item is gone, mark it sold. It leaves the browse list but every enquiry stays readable, and you can relist it if the sale falls through.
What it does
An item, its price, and the people asking about it
An item with a real price and condition
Give an item a title, a price, a condition and an optional photo. The price is stored as whole pence, so it can never drift the way a decimal can, and leaving it blank means you are taking offers.
Browse what is for sale
The app opens on the items for sale, newest first, so the first thing to do is read what is there or put something up. Each item has its own page.
An enquiry is a private conversation
A question opens a private thread with the seller — the same messaging the rest of the suite uses — so the answer comes back where the question was asked and no one else can read it.
One enquiry per person
Enquiring is one row per person per item, so a second question reuses the thread rather than starting another. The seller sees every enquiry on the item's page.
Sell without losing the record
Mark an item sold and it leaves the browse list, but every enquiry stays readable — selling is reversible, and you can relist an item at any time.
Everything on your own server
The listings, the photos and the enquiries are rows and files on your own server, on your own disk. There is no marketplace platform, no public directory and no third party holding your listings.
