Our Instagram
A photo feed that is yours.
Our Instagram is a photo feed you run yourself. You upload a photo, write a caption, and post it to your own domain — the image is stored on your own disk, and the feed that shows it is yours, not a rented one.
A photo post needs a photo: the composer will not accept a caption on its own, because a photo feed without the photo is a text feed. Each upload is stored on your install's own disk and served from your own domain, and a delete really frees the bytes. Stories and reels are not built, and the app says so rather than implying them.
Step by step
How to post a photo, from upload to feed
The real steps in your own install: upload, caption, publish, and the delete that frees the bytes.
- STEP 01
Open Our Instagram
From your workspace, open Our Instagram. It is the photo feed that is already part of your install.
- STEP 02
Upload a photo
Choose an image from your computer. It is written to your own server's storage.
- STEP 03
Write a caption
Add the caption people will read under the photo. It is yours; nothing is generated for you.
- STEP 04
Post it to your feed
Publish the post. It appears in your photo feed on your own domain, where anyone you share it with can see it.
- STEP 05
Delete it when you are done
Remove a photo from the same screen, and the disk space it used is freed.
What it does
Everything a movie needs, without a camera
Upload a photo and caption it
Pick an image, write the caption and post it. The photo is the point, so the composer asks for one before it will publish.
Stored on your own disk
Each image is written to your server's own storage and served from your domain, so your photos are files you hold rather than pixels on someone else's machine.
A feed of your own
The photos appear in a feed on your own domain, in the order you posted them, with no adverts and no algorithm reordering them.
Delete frees the bytes
Deleting a photo removes the file from disk. A photo you removed should not still be occupying your storage.
A caption people can reply to
A post carries its caption and takes comments, so the feed is a conversation, not just a gallery.
One set of people
The people who see your photos are the handles from your own install's directory, shared with your wall and your videos.
